This HowTo will teach you how to install and enable modules in your Drupal install.
You should remember that not all modules are compatible with all versions of Drupal.
If you are in 5.x version the module will not work with 6.x.
You should always check that all the modules that you use in your 5x are available for 6x before you decide to upgrade to 6x.
For instance at the time of writing this the CCK Module Addresses is not updated to work with Drupal Version 6x. This means that all the content that has been added to your site using this module will not be accessible for viewing or editing.
In this case you can not upgrade unless you want to lose a large portion of your data.
The same is true when Modules that you install require other dependent Modules. Some modules are core or basic Durpal Modules that should be available but if not then you will need to check with the developer of the module or rewrite the module yourself to be compatible.
