This HowTo will teach you a little about making content types for your Drupal Install.

Content Types are used for a variety of reasons including allowing you to manage different type of content.

Lets say you have a number of businesses and you would like to be able to enter their name address phone and other information and have separate fields for each item you can make a content type and use the CCK content control kit plugin and insert fields on your content type page and you will be able to sort based on all the fields in your new content type.

You can then find businesses sorted by name, zip code or any other field that you include in your content type.
